WTS: WTS: Dell C6100 - Quad Node Server with 8 Xeon L5520s and 96GB ECC RAM

I am sellinga Dell C6100, which is in excellent condition (well, excellent for a used datacenter server at least)







The 2U chassis comes with 4 NODES, each node has the following specifications:



Processors:

• 2 x Xeon L5520 (8M Cache, 2.26 GHz, Quad Core with HT)

Memory:

• 24GB (6 x 4GB) DDR3 ECC RAM (Each node has 6 of a maximum of 12 DIMMs filled)

Chipset:

• Intel 5520 (takes Xeon 55XX or 56XX processors)

Video:

• AST2050 with 64MB RAM

Drive Bays:

• 3 x 3.5" per node (12 x 3.5” hard drive bays per chassis). 4 drive trays included, the rest are filled with filler trays which can be re-purposed to hold 3.5" drives

Storage:

• 6 SATA ports per motherboard (3 connected via slim SATA cables to the chassis drive bays via an interposer board)

Networking:

• 2 x Intel® 82576 Gigabit Ethernet


• 1 x 100Mb dedicated IPMI 2.0 remote management port (via web interface or ipmitools, etc)

Peripheral ports:

• 2 x USB2 (back of node tray)


• 2 x USB2 available on a non-standard header near the SATA ports. Information on how to wire these up is easily available.

Expansion Slots:

• 1x PCIe x 8 Mezzanine slot (can be populated with several types of cards, easily found on eBay)

Other notable things:

• The chassis comes with 2 x 1100W redundant power supplies.


• This is to the best of my knowledge standard Dell C6100s NOT customized Dell DCS units (since their serial numbers are searchable on Dell's support site) and therefore the BIOS, BMC and FCBs can be easily updated with newer versions if Dell decides to put any out. I have already updated them to the latest versions as of the writing of this post. On a similar note, these units also come with the newer fan controller board that has flashable firmware.

Power consumption :

• A full chassis idles at around 180W


• Stress test with a 100% load on all 8 processors pulls around 500W

In conclusion, the unit consists of:

• 8 x L5520s for a total of 32 cores (not counting HT)


• 96GB of ECC RAM (and can go up to 192GB if you populate the rest of the DIMMs with 4G sticks)


• 2 x Redundant 1100W power supplies


• 4 Drive trays, 8 Filler trays, 12 Drive bays (I will throw in all the spare drive trays I have lying around if you'd like)
  

Which is plenty of processing power and ram in a 2U space.
